One in three Canadian youth experience dating violence. The risk is even greater for those youth who are marginalized, including those facing mental health challenges, living in poverty, or experiencing racism.

It is important for teens, family, friends and teachers to be aware of the signs of teen dating violence and be ready to assist.



🛑 Know the Signs of an Abusive Relationship 🛑

  • Extreme jealousy or insecurity

  • Constant belittling or put-downs, especially in front of others

  • Explosive temper

  • Isolating you from family or friends

  • Making false accusations

  • Erratic mood swings

  • Physically inflicting pain in any way

  • Possessiveness

  • Checking cell phone/social media

  • Pressuring you or forcing you to have sex

If you are a victim of teen dating violence, know that you are NOT alone! Help is available and safety is possible!

  • Prepare a safety plan (this is a personalized, practical plan to improve your safety while experiencing abuse, preparing to leave and after you leave)

  • Tell someone you trust, seek support, get out when you feel safe to do so.
